| This steep wall dive, also known as Lost Anchor for a large anchor that can (supposedly) be found at 75 feet, is accessible from shore or boat. To reach this site by car, drive to the town of Soto and take a left towards Sunset Waters Resort. You'll pass Land House Santa Martha on your right, before driving beneath some large shade trees. Take a left on the narrow road immediately after the trees and follow this paved road about 2 miles to Playa Hundu. (Note, at times this road is impassable due to overgrown thorn bushes which can cause significant damage to your vehicle.)You can drive right up to the beach, which consists of coral rubble and is usually deserted. The area has plenty of shade from mansalina trees, but there are no amenities, so make sure to bring water and snacks, and don"t forget your "save-a-dive” kit with some extra o-rings. You can enter the water anywhere, but be careful of the shallow coral heads near shore; booties are highly recommended. Currents vary and there is usually a moderate swell. Snorkelers will enjoy the shallows to the left side of the beach near the cliffs. The mooring buoy is fixed on the shelf near the lip of the drop-off in 30 feet of water. The wall starts at 30 feet and falls steeply below 120 feet. Just to the right of the buoy is a large sand channel, an easy orientation point. Either direction is nice, but current permitting we recommend heading left, where the wall is steeper and more lushly grown with Plate Coral, Star Coral, Brain Coral, Elephant Ear Sponges, Tube Sponges, and Black Coral. Look for Spotted Morays, Sea Horses, Squid, and Barracuda. |
