This dive site can be found on the expansive private grounds of San Juan along with three other sites: Playa Mansalina, Big Sponge, and Boka Grandi. To get here by car, head west past Cas Abou and look for the red and white painted rock and the small sign for San Juan on your left. (If you get to Soto, you've gone too far!) Follow this road to the ruins of an old land house, where you"ll pay a small fee, which allows you access to all the beaches and dive sites beyond. There are no facilities here so don't forget your water and snacks. The quiet beaches are a great place to relax and usually deserted during the week, and the dirt roads and seaside trails running along the cliffs are worth exploring by jeep, bike, or on foot.
Playa Largu, meaning Long Beach, is the southern most dive site. Follow the small signs alongside the dirt road and park close to the water. The beach is comprised of coral rubble and the entry is rocky, with some shallow coral heads to beware of. Current and waves are generally light to moderate. Weather permitting the shallow areas offer good snorkeling, with Elkhorn Coral, Brain Coral, Sea Fans, Damselfish, and Parrotfish all found in good numbers. The drop-off is about fifty yards straight out from shore, starting at 25 feet and dropping below 130 feet where it hits a sandy plateau. Current permitting both directions are good, with abundant Sponges, Pencil Coral, and Gorgonians. Look for Eagle Rays, Sting Rays, Turtles, Porcupinefish, and Barracuda.
