Description
| This quaint small beach is a good spot for snorkelers and divers of all levels. It’s often empty during the week but can get crowded on weekends. To reach this site by car head to the town of Willibrordus and take a left at the big church, then follow the signs past Habitat Resort; the road ends at Daaibooi. Facilities at the beach are limited to a few thatched parasols, so bring plenty of water and suntan lotion. You can park very close to the beach and access is free. The waters inside the bay are protected by the neighboring cliffs. Swells and current are usually negligible, making this a great spot for snorkelers and novice divers. You’ll find Sea Urchins, Sea Cucumbers, Peacock Flounders, Lizard Fish, and some small coral formations along the rocks at both ends of the bay. To reach the drop-off, enter at the beach and swim straight out. Keep an eye out for the fishing boats which come and go from the cove. Also beware that beyond the mouth of the bay the current can pick up. The drop-off is about a five minute swim past the end of the bay, starting in 30 feet of water and continuing on past 100 feet. The reef is populated by a mix of Gorgonians, Sponges, and Stony Corals, with some good sized Star Coral along the edge. Look for Trunkfish, Surgeonfish, Filefish, and some deepwater fish cruising the edge of the wall. |
