This site gets its name from the light tower sitting up on the cliffs just inland from the dive location, southeast of Habitat Resort off the point at Rif St. Marie. The Light Tower is only accessible by boat. Due to its direct exposure to the trade winds, currents and swells tend to run strong, and this site is only recommended for experienced divers. There is no mooring buoy, so all the dives are drift dives; getting in and out of the boat tends to pose the greatest challenge. Once you’re in the water, pick a depth, stick with your buddy, kick up your fins, and let the current take you on a tour of the reef.
The reef wall starts in 25 feet of water, dropping fairly steeply to a depth of over 100 feet. The strong currents bring in a continual supply of fresh water, so visibility is generally in excess of 100 feet. The fresh, nutrient rich waters also bring in larger fish like Tuna and Barracuda, with sharks occasionally spotted here by fortunate divers. The reef is populated by healthy colonies of Tube Sponges, Brain Coral, Leaf Coral, and Elephant Ear Sponges, to name a few. Seasonally, pods of dolphins can be seen hunting and playing off the wall here as well. The currents make macro photography a bit tricky, but this is a great spot for the wide angle lens.
