Accessible by boat or shore, this dive site is suitable for all levels of divers. To get here by car, take a left off the Weg Naar Bullenbaai and head to the nearby fishing village of Boka St. Michiel. For those who enjoy seafood, the local restaurants offer fish right off the boats; you can eat it there or throw it on ice and take it home for a barbecue.
The parking lot is near the beach, and it’s easiest to gear up by your car. On site facilities include bathrooms, showers, shade, and a full service dive shop. Enter the water directly in front of the dive shop, but don’t use the boat ramp; it’s very slick with algae! The bay is usually sheltered from the wind, with little current or swells present. The sandy bottom here is a good place for novice divers to practice their buoyancy before heading out to the reef. The drop-off is about a five minute swim towards the cliffs to the right of the beach.
The reef starts in 30 feet of water and drops fairly steeply to over 130 feet, with healthy colonies of Brain Coral, Sheet Coral, and Yellow Pencil Coral. Deeper down the wall you’ll find numerous colorful sponges. Also look for Hamlets, Squirrelfish, Blennies, Grunts, and some good sized Cornetfish.
