Description
| To reach this site by car head to Blauwbaai, just northwest of Piscadera Bay near the Blue Bay Golf Resort. When paying the parking fee, tell them you're there to dive and they"ll halve the price. Facilities include showers, bathrooms, snacks, and a full service dive shop. The dive shop requires you rent their tanks, even if you’ve brought your own. Sheltered from the wind and waves on both sides by cliffs, this site is excellent for all levels of divers and snorkelers alike. Enter at the beach and swim out between the two breakwaters along the gently sloping sandy bottom. Snorkelers and beginning divers will find some nice scenery along the breakwaters, including Brain Coral, Parrotfish and Soldierfish. The drop-off is only a few minute swim from shore, starting at 30 feet and sloping down to 100 feet. Heading to the left, the nicest part of the reef is along the plateau on down to about 50 feet with a nice variety of soft corals and some healthy stony coral mixed in. Below that the growth thins out among large sandy patches. Look for Stingrays snoozing and half-buried in the sand, or out nosing around for a meal beneath the sand. With a sharp eye you can also find some Peacock Flounders lying out and hiding in plain site. If you head to the right for about 10 minutes you’ll reach another dive site, The Wall. |
