Description
At this site tech divers from the Seaquarium discovered a brand new type of fish at a depth of over 300 feet, named the Saber Goby. We don’t recommend that you try to find it! The team from Seaquarium has also placed several large old anchors and a big propeller for divers to enjoy. For experienced deep divers, two small tugboats are located below the drop off, directly in front of the entry point. Follow the drop off down to the plateau at 150 feet, where you’ll find the boats heavily encrusted with sponges and black coral. Make sure to hang a safety tank and watch your time carefully. This site is located in the Curacao Underwater Park at the mouth of Spanish Waters, fairly close to Barbara Beach. Due to the construction of a new hotel, Barbara Beach is currently not accessible from land, so at the moment this site can only be reached by boat. As it sits close to a popular harbor, beware of boat traffic, particularly on the weekends. Consider taking along a dive float and flag, and surface close to your boat. Named for the prevalence of Barracuda in the area, this site offers a variety of attractions. A barrier reef of Elkhorn and Fire Coral runs close to shore, and is worth snorkeling when weather permits. The mooring is on a shallow terrace, 20 feet deep, populated by an assortment of hard and soft corals including Pillar Corals, Finger Corals, and Leaf Corals. A five minute swim brings you to the drop off, starting at 30 feet and descending down to 100 feet. Depending on the current you can go either direction. Mountainous Star Coral and Sea Fans compete for your attention along the steep wall. Yellow Goat Fish and Soldier Fish are frequently seen in large numbers. Also look for the Trumpet and Cornet Fish swimming head down, waiting for a hapless victim to mistake them for a Gorgonian and pass by close enough to become lunch.Named for the prevalence of Barracuda in the area, this site offers a variety of attractions.
