Description
| Situated just southeast of Nieuwpoort and Fuikbaai, this site lies off private property and can only be reached by boat. The area was once known for its wealth of eels, though these days their numbers are similar to what you’ll find on the rest of the island. Though surf and current are common, on a calm day this site is suitable for snorkelers and all levels of divers. The best snorkeling is along the cliffs near shore, where you’ll find Anemones, Urchins, Goldentail Eels, and Parrotfish among the Stony Corals. The mooring buoy is on a sandy plateau in 20 feet of water, a short distance from the drop-off. The reef starts at a depth of 25 feet and runs to 100 feet. It’s nicely covered with Encrusting Sponges, Ball Sponges, Star Coral, and Brain Coral. Look for large Green Morays, Spotted Morays, Scorpionfish, and the well camouflaged Octopus. Numerous nooks and crannies are a favorite home for Crabs and the Spiny Lobster. If the current is running strong, ask your captain to make this a drift dive. |
