Terug naar overzicht Boka Grandi

Accessible from the following beaches

Description

This dive site is located on the expansive private grounds of San Juan along with three other dive sites: Playa Mansalina, Big Sponge, and Playa Largu. To get here by car, head west past Cas Abou and look for the red and white painted rock and the small sign for San Juan on your left. (If you get to Soto, you've gone too far!) Follow this road to the ruins of an old land house, where you'll pay a small fee which allows you access to all the beaches and dive sites beyond. There are no facilities here, so bring plenty of water and snacks. The quiet beaches are a great place to relax and usually deserted during the week, and the dirt roads and seaside trails running along the cliffs are well worth exploring.

Boka Grandi is the northwest most dive site. Follow the small signs along the side of the dirt road and park close to the water. The beach is a sandy coral mix and the entrance is easy. Current and waves are usually minimal, and this site is suitable for all levels of divers. There is some nice snorkeling along the cliffs, particularly towards the left side of the bay where you’ll find some healthy coral formations at depths of 10 - 15 feet. The drop-off is about 150 yards straight out from shore across a sandy bottom.

The reef wall starts in 25 feet of water, gradually dropping to 110 feet. Sea Rods, Rope Sponges, Brain Coral, and Lettuce Coral are all found here, along with schools of Creole Wrasse, Angelfish, Goby, and come good sized Grouper. With some luck you might also find Dolphins playing in the bay.
