Means of transport on Curacao
24-07-2009
To get the most out of your holiday on Curacao, you need to use some form of transport.
Cycling
Curacao's infrastructure is not suitable to recreational cycling. Besides the heat, other road users have very little respect for cyclists. By contrast, the '"off road conditions'" are ideal for mountain biking. The dirt tracks which could be extremely tedious for hiking constitute a mountain biker's dream. With careful planning of the route, and carrying sufficient water, or by taking an organised mountain bike tour, you could explore much of the island over several days.Taxi's
Privately hired taxis can be relatively expensive. However from 23.00 hrs onwards a taxi is the only reliable form of public transport available.Click here for more details on taxis in Curacao
Public transport
Local bus services are cheap, run fairly regularly during the day, but are slow and not punctual because of frequents stops. There are plenty of bus stops but you can hail the bus and it will stop. There is a limited and unreliable night bus service after 23.00.Click here for more details on public transport in Curacao
Car hire on Curacao
Car hire is reasonably priced making it a popular option for visitors. Prices start from €20 per day including insurance. Hiring a car is really the best way to explore the island. We strongly recommend car hire if you are planning to dive.Click here for more details on car rental in Curacao
Driving in Curacao
The road rules in principle remain the same as international driving rules, but with a relaxed Caribbean attitude applied in practice.Click here for more details on driving on the roads in Curacao
